Concrete grinding and preparation
for epoxy floors

Professional concrete surface preparation is the most important step in epoxy flooring. Without quality grinding even the best coating will not last. Our team uses modern diamond-head machines.

Why is preparation the most important step in epoxy flooring?

Many people think the quality of an epoxy floor depends mainly on the material used. In reality — more than 70% of the final result quality is determined by surface preparation. Even the most expensive epoxy system will not adhere to concrete if the surface has not been properly prepared.

Problems solved by professional concrete grinding: the weak, dusty concrete surface layer that prevents adhesion; oil and chemical residues that block pore opening; old paint or coating that must be completely removed; uneven surface that will create thickness variations in the epoxy.

Diamond-head machines

Industrial grinders with diamond abrasive discs — the only effective way to prepare concrete for epoxy.

Integrated dust collection

Grinders with dust collection system — work proceeds cleanly even in production spaces where production cannot be stopped.

Concrete condition assessment

Before starting work we measure concrete moisture and strength — important to understand what preparation is needed.

Crack and damage repair

Cracks and concrete defects are filled with special epoxy filler products before applying the main coating.

Concrete reinforcement

Weak or dusty concrete is reinforced with a deep-penetrating primer that absorbs into the pores and cements the concrete structure.

Surface levelling

Minor height differences can be levelled, improving the overall flatness of the floor before epoxy application.

Concrete grinding process — step by step

1. Inspection and assessment. Our specialist visits the site, measures concrete moisture with special sensors and assesses concrete strength. If moisture exceeds permitted limits, epoxy must not be applied — we must wait or install a moisture barrier.

2. Surface cleaning. Before grinding we clean the surface of heavy oil contamination using chemical degreasers. This step allows the diamonds to work efficiently without clogging with contaminants.

3. Concrete grinding. With a floor grinding machine — a heavy industrial machine with diamond heads — we process the entire surface. The grinder removes the top 1–3 mm of the concrete layer, exposing a clean and strong base.

4. Filling cracks and defects. All identified cracks and depressions are filled with flexible epoxy filler that, once cured, becomes part of the concrete.

5. Priming. We apply a deep-penetrating epoxy primer that "seals" the concrete and prepares it for the main coating. This step prevents bubble formation.

Why is DIY not recommended?

Online stores sell hand grinding tools and epoxy kits. However, without industrial grinding machines the concrete preparation quality is significantly lower — handheld machines do not provide even, controlled preparation over large areas. Result: epoxy that peels within 1–2 years.

Professional work with industrial equipment ensures that the epoxy coating will last 10–20 years — a significant advantage compared to a DIY result.
